Problem Solving
and the 3 levels of intervention

“Think outside the box
with Strategic Systemic Problem Solving”

Claudette PORTELLI

Psychologist, experienced trainer and coach specialized in the brief strategic approach (Giorgio Nardone team)

This 4 half-day module aims to make you experience the steps and techniques of Problem Solving and the 3 levels of strategic intervention.

Description

This module aims to develop a fundamental skill in various areas of life: strategic problem solving. As Karl Popper says, "All of life is problem solving." Coaches or therapists must guide their clients towards solving their problems, but to do so they must have the necessary instruments that must be acquired and eventually mastered.

During this module, participants will acquire operational tools to be able to better define the problem encountered in its given context, in order to find the most appropriate solutions. Participants will learn new methods of investigation that will lead them to think outside the box, to find solutions even in seemingly impossible situations. Participants will learn problem-oriented techniques and solution-oriented techniques to be able to thoroughly assess the problem they are facing. They will receive a kind of boilerplate that can be applied to different situations and contexts.

The method of strategic problem solving is rigorous but not rigid, and can be applied to different contexts: individual, family, school, company, etc. She takes an ecological approach to avoid dealing with problems in a one-size-fits-all way. Additionally, participants will learn how to create a step-by-step action plan by taking an action-research approach to their practice.

Modality, means and teaching aids

Participants will be guided through interactive lessons to acquire operational tools in the process of strategic problem solving.

However, this module will use a learning-by-doing method, where participants are asked to reflect and find answers to every aspect of the problem-solving process. Participants will take an action-research approach to problem-solving by working on specific case studies of their choice to create a strategic action plan. The action plan created will be presented to the class by each student at the end of the module.

  • Live distance courses integrating simulations, role-playing, exercises and case studies to promote the participation and involvement of all students and interaction with teachers
  • A course rhythm allowing the integration of personal work
  • Interactive and experiential approach
  • Individual work, in pairs and sub-groups during and outside the sessions
