      Solution-oriented intervention

How to move from the world of problems to the world of solutions

      Dr. Marie-Christine CABIE

Trainer in systemic family therapy, brief therapies and Ericksonian hypnosis.

Systemic approaches are based on the relationships between individuals. Every individual is both a whole and a part of another larger system. Depending on the contexts in which he is, he develops certain skills.

Therapy is a conversation during which the therapist creates a favorable context for the expression of new choices, objectives, where the patient will be able to build his own solutions from his resources and skills and those of the systems to which he belongs.

The therapist is in charge of the process: putting the client to work!

      Description

This two-session module introduces the main concepts of solution-focused approaches, the flow of a session and specific techniques. It includes a theoretical contribution on the solution-centric approach (Steve De Shazer & Insoo Kim Berg) and the Bruges model (Luc Isebaert). During exercises the students will be able to experience the differences between the world of problems and the world of solutions. The presentation of an excerpt from a solution-focused interview will illustrate the process implemented and will be commented on by the students and the trainer.

During the two modules, the following notions will be covered:

      • Presuppositions
      • Therapy as conversation: Ericksonian conception and systemic approach
