Distance learning, a format meeting new needs

Distance learning, a format meeting new needs

Digital university education marked a turning point in 2020, considered a pivotal year, with ambitious projections for 2025. Historically, e-learning has been more widely adopted in the professional sector than in higher education, where integration Digital learning has long been seen as incompatible with traditional teaching methods. However, as the Internet has become essential in the lives of students, French universities have started, over the past ten years, to seriously integrate e-learning into their programs, aiming for a blended learning approach that combines face-to-face teaching and remotely.

The 2020 health crisis accelerated this transformation, spurred by previous government and university initiatives aimed at developing distance learning. The E-Learning 2022 program was particularly significant, aiming to considerably increase the number of higher education courses accessible remotely. Although progress has been made, the full integration of e-learning in higher education remains an ongoing goal, with persistent challenges related to acceptance by the teaching community and adaptation of teaching methods. The outlook for 2025 includes adapting to technological innovations that could make some current practices obsolete, although the relevance of fundamental educational principles remains unchanged. Game based learning and blended learning are identified as particularly effective methods, provided that they are designed and delivered taking into account the specific needs and constraints of the target audience.

The digitalization of university education meets a dual need: facilitating access to educational resources and meeting expectations of legitimacy and prestige.

To be effective, digital training must be humanized, taking into account collaborative relationships within the group of learners and between learners and trainers. The educational model must be adapted and personalized, promoting self-learning while offering remote supervision.

This is why LACT envisages digitalized university education must be considered as a dynamic and interactive process, where interactivity, efficiency, skills development and use of knowledge are key criteria. The success of this approach is based on the ability to adapt training to the specific needs of learners, while respecting the fundamental principles of design and delivery.
